Jon and Mia were day 2 on our weekend trip to Port Huron. We don’t shoot in the area very often, so it was a nice coincidence to have these two weddings in the same weekend. We also don’t usually shoot two weddings in a weekend, but I am glad we did as we really enjoyed both day’s.
Mia and Jon had both their ceremony and reception at Black River Golf Club. It’s really nice to shoot weddings that have the ceremony and reception in the same place, it makes the day a little more relaxed. One thing we did that was totally out of the ordinary was Jon, Mia, Jayson and I all left after the ceremony and drove about 10 min to the beach to take pictures, while the gusts enjoyed cocktails at the venue. Usually Bride’s and Groom’s don’t want to leave, but they really wanted some shots at the beach. Although it was not as sunny as the previous day I think the overcast weather gave the pictures a more romantic feel. It was a little bit of a hustle, but I think well worth it.
Oh…yes, that is a real butterfly on the groom’s eye. Jon and Mia released butterflies and some of them were less then cooperative to fly away : )

If I were to have my wedding all over again I would want it to be exactly like Heather and Matt’s. The venue, Four Lakes Golf Club was one of my favorites and they had a luau theme that provided endless details for us the photograph. Mother Nature granted them with the most beautiful blue sky with big puffy white clouds. It was really a perfect day and Jayson and I really enjoyed photographing Matt and Heather. Four Lakes is in Kimball, MI (Just west of Port Huron) and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking in that area—it’s a beautiful facility!
What I thought was the best part of Matt & Heather’s wedding was that it was so casual with everyone really getting into the theme. Yet, it was extremely elegant at the same time. Heather did a great job mixing the fun of a luau with the formalness of a wedding!

In one of Meghan’s emails before her wedding she told me that her wedding was going to be the best wedding ever! That kind of got me thinking…I don’t think I have a “best wedding ever.” Our favorite weddings are the ones that at the end of the night we look at each other and say “WOW, what a blast–I can’t believe this is my JOB” : )
With Mark & Meghan’s we thought that three-fold! Theirs was the second wedding we shot that weekend and the second ones are always a little tough to get thru. To be honest we are tired and sore and kind of want to go home. With Mark & Meghan the time seemed to FLY by! Simply put, Mark, Meghan, their friends and family are just nice people. I felt like Meghan treated us like an honored guest instead of hired help ; )
Their wedding was held at Saint Damian Catholic Church in Westland and their reception was held at Woodlands of Van Buron. I think it’s their reception that made the time go by so quickly. The dance floor was packed all night long, led my Meghan’s parents. Mark & Meghan moved to Texas after their wedding and I’m so sad to see them go. They are my second clients this year who had to move out of state to find teaching jobs. Michigan is really losing out.

Jen and Mike were married at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton. The couple decided to see each other and take all the pictures beforehand. This makes everything so easy and relaxed for the rest of the day. Jen was probably the most relaxed bride we have ever shot, and I think it’s because they were not rushing around to do things between the ceremony and reception. Mike and Jen held their reception at Plymouth Manor in Downtown Plymouth.

Michael and Kelliann held their wedding at the beautiful Wyndgate Country Club The had an outdoor ceremony and then held their cocktail hour and reception in the main clubhouse. I’n not sure if Kelliann used a coordinator, but if not she is really talented. Everything was beautiful, and she really tied in her colors and her monogram into every detail. The even had special bar drinks that matched their colors (green and brown). During cocktail hour Jayson and I had a great bridal session with them Michael and Kelliann were up for any suggestion, witch makes for great pictures! Congratulations!

We had such an easy time shooting Nichole and Bobby’s wedding. They are both so relaxed and easy going and their friends and family are so warm and inviting. Nichole and Bobby were married in Novi and their reception was held at Crystal Gardens in Howell. As an in between location we were able to stop at Bobby’s parents who’s home backs up to Kensington Metro Park. How lucky—we didn’t have to share with anybody!

When my initial consultation meeting with Dawn lasted over 2 hours I knew that Dawn would be so much fun to shoot on her wedding day and we would have a great time. She is so down to earth and is such a warm and funny person. And I was also really looking forward to meeting Jason! Jason and Dawn have such a great love story, they knew each other is grade school and then went their separate ways until one day he walked into the Sprint store where Dawn worked. Jason had been the popular athlete and Dawn told me she was the shy quite girl. Well, I can certainly attest to that Dawn is no longer shy and quite! Congrats guys, and be sure to keep in touch.

I was really excited to shoot Karen’s wedding. Karen and I met years ago when we both worked for a publishing company in Troy. After I left we kept in touch, and she thought of me when it came time to pick a wedding photographer. When we met for lunch and she asked me to shoot her wedding I was so excited. I knew that the wedding would be beautiful, and Karen would be gorgeous—and I was not disappointed. What truly blew me away was how wonderful her new husband is. Brian is truly a warm genuine person, and it was really great spending the day with him. Karen and Brian were married at the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak and their reception was held at Great Oaks Country Club in Rochester. Between the ceremony and reception they rented Meadow Brook Gardens for their formal pictures, it’s a beautiful spot! We also had a chance to work with RoseMary, their videoagrapher, again. She is so easy to work with and has such creative ideas.
Having two weddings in one weekend is always hard, by the second day we are so tired and worn out. But with Will & Kate on Friday and Brian & Karen on Saturday it made the days go by so quick. It’s like we were hanging out with friends, and just happened to be taking pictures as well.

I met Will and Katie last winter and liked them both immediately. We had a great initial consultation and I was really happy when they choose us to shoot their wedding. It was a tight schedule that day which would have stressed most brides out, but Katie and Will were AWESOME! They enjoyed every moment of the running around we did ; ) I can’t say enough what wonderful, warm people they are, and how much Jayson and I enjoyed the day. Their ceremony was held in Ann Arbor and the reception in Farmington Hills. After the ceremony we planned to go the the law quad on U of M’s campus as both Will and Katie are U of M grads. Before we did this we took a few moments to shoot some right outside the church and I am so glad we did, those are some of my favorite pictures of the summer! In my opinion the bright, cheerful freshness of the sky and grass really reflect their personalities even more than the charm of the law quad.

Greg and Tracey had both their ceremony and reception at the historic Gem Theatre in downtown Detroit. The venue is absolutely beautiful, and Tracey and Greg’s wedding was perfect for it. One of the many things I loved about this wedding was the formality of the venue mixed with all of the whimsical touches that Tracey and Greg included. From the invitations to her shoes Tracey has a way of really bringing everything together, the wedding was fun and exciting while still managing to be formal and elegant. It was a beautiful evening and I’m so happy that we could capture all the details.
